Yes, I know. You've covered your mattresses and pillows and put hardwoods in your bedroom. You've puffed on inhalers and taken all kinds of pills. You've done all you can to minimize your asthma and now they want you to get rid of the cat!
I know. Me, too! You just have to draw the line somewhere!

Well, all is not lost. I've been there, and there is something you can do.
First, buy a good ability Hepa filter and place near your bed in the room where you sleep. Even better, buy an additional one one for the main floor of your home as well. The filter will eliminate most of the cat hair and other kitty allergens as well. It will also take off so much other stuff that it's a great selection even if you have no pets! I use a Helathmate Jr. In the bedroom and a Healthmate Plus downstairs. It admittedly did the trick.
Next give your cat a weekly bath. Okay, if you're rolling on the floor at the belief of your Scruffy succumbing to a bath, take heart. There are allergen wipes you can 'pet' her with that work, also. Veterinarians now believe that it's not admittedly the hair, but the residue the cat leaves when she bathes that bother us so. A weekly bath or wipe down minimizes that.
In our house we all have allergies and asthma, and think our kitties members of the family, so this is what we tried and it admittedly worked! We had to start out with the wipes, but when we added a new baby kitten we started out bathing her when she was small. Now, although it's not her favorite thing, she accepts it as just a fact of life!
Finally, if there's someone else in your home that loves the cat, get them to brush her regularly. If not, give the baths a few weeks to work and then brush her yourself. Or try a pollen mask when you brush. Give the cat a chance to get used to you in the mask first. Also, wash the brush after each use, so you don't hold old allergens and reintroduce them to the cat.
Also, if the cat goes outdoors, be sure to wipe her down when she come back inside. She can bring in lots of things you may be allergic to inside on her fur and paws.

Also, the fewer allergens you encounter uncut the better you body can cope the ones you do, so diligence in other areas will leave your body better able to cope the kitty dander it does encounter.
