What Are Dust Mites?

Dust mites are diminutive bugs that live on the dead skin cells that are shed by humans and also by house pets. They are smaller than a grain of sand and cannot be seen without a microscope. They come form the same family of insects as spiders, they have a round body, some small legs and a set of pincers. Fortunately these diminutive creatures do not carry any diseases or harm humans in any direct way, however they do carry a protein in their waste matter than many population are allergic too.

Dust Mites frequent any place where they can be kept warm and where they can find enough to eat. Given that they survive on dead skin cells, you can find them in carpet, curtains, lounge chairs and in linen. Their favorite abode is in your bed and mattress. July and August are the peak season for dust mites.

How Do Dust Mites Cause Allergies?

It is concept that as much as 10% of the population suffer from a dust mite allergy. It is not the actual mite that causes an allergy, rather a protein that is within their waste matter. When they die this protein also exists within their bodies.

Dust mites are the prominent cause of a health called perennial allergic rhinitis. The protein agitates the delicate lining of the nose and throat, causing a runny nose, sore throat, head aches, ear aches and many more symptoms.
